Self Storage 101
Bookworms are actually really nasty. Bookworms, beware!
Packing books? Here are some tried-and-true tips: ■ Acid-free boxes are best, but, if anything, ensure that your containers are clean. Mildew and mold from unclean boxes can quickly damage books and attract pests. ■ Stand the books upright, as if they were on a shelf, which reduces stress on the spine and pressure on the paper. Alternate which direction the spine faces and pack the box as snugly as possible. ■ Avoid wrapping books with newspaper since the ink can transfer on to the cloth or leather bindings. ■ For added protection, place a piece of cardboard between books to prevent them from sticking to one another after long-term storage.
